This Tuesday 7/14 at 8 PM Irvine City Council is voting to put Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) for Irvine elections on the ballot this November.
If passed, this would give voters the opportunity to democratize elections in Irvine, where many elections are won by minority margins due to vote splitting—making the city the first in Orange County to do so, hopefully setting a precedent for the rest of OC. RCV is part of how Zohran Mamdani won his race for NYC mayor, and would help labor and left candidates win more easily in future elections! We're asking all DSA members to come support RCV in Irvine this Tuesday. Please wear purple or union merch (purple is the color of CalRCV's campaign).
All DSA members are encouraged to attend, but please only plan to give public comment if you are an Irvine resident.
Let's pack the room! Solidarity!
